It’s hot as hell, ya’ll.
The beginning of summer around here (Denver) was overshadowed quite literally by overcast skies and endless amounts of unseasonal (for us) rain. Like, we haven’t seen that much rain ever or last I heard at one point it was sometime in the 60’s. At any rate, I am not a journalist and I am not fact-checking this but you get the idea.
So it rained all of May and June, swiftly shifted directly into the 90’s and now we have arrived to August (how?) and I love the summer but, damn.
It’s just hot.
I keep seeing and reading about fall things- recipes, back-to-school, the attire, and I’m here staring at my tomato plant in the garden that has just now started to fruit. What I’m trying to say is that I love fall, in fact it is my favorite season, but here in Denver we have a ways to go. Did this stop me from getting too excited when Anaya suggested that we just go have a peek at fall/Halloween decorations last week? Absolutely not and I am wildly grateful to have a partner that *gets me* the way he does, but…
We have time. A lot of time, in fact. Apparently there are parts of the country that are able to hang their flannels and sweaters next to the front door come September 1 meanwhile we will still be retreating to the cooler parts of the state to escape the dog days of summer. Our summer crops grow well into September, most of the growers at the farmers markets not hauling tomatoes until August, while corn is just now starting to arrive as well. Scarlett might be starting school in less than two weeks but summer is very much alive and will be for a beat. Do I finally have one lowley bell pepper in the garden? I do. Did I start a DIY Halloween Pinterest board last week? Yes, I did.
I’m not rushing. I’m just… preparing.
